Room 12 became rock detectives as we explored the mineral belt at the Hacket. The rain kindly stopped for the day but the days of rain prior meant there was no avoiding getting wet feet. Mr J was our wise tour guide explaining both the history of the area and the geology of the rocks. We saw sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rock along with weta and the waterfall in full flow. Apart from the odd blister it was a very enjoyable day out.

Matariki
To celebrate Matariki (the Maori New Year) Room 12 made some kites, which Maori believed linked them to the gods. Some interesting designs were created and the test flights on a blustery, showery afternoon had mixed results.
There is also a hangi at school on Thursday to celebrate the first new moon after the Matariki stars become visible, signifying the new year.
